About the Cairns Taipans

Since 1999

The Cairns Taipans joined the NBL for the 1999–2000 season and are the league's northernmost club. Their home court at the Cairns Convention Centre, nicknamed the Snake Pit, is one of the loudest and most intimate buildings in the league and a genuinely tough place for visiting teams.

The Taipans have reached two Grand Finals, in 2011 and 2015, and are still chasing a first championship. The club punches above its weight for a regional city and is known for tough, defensive teams and a fiercely proud local following.
